The Maltings begin the festive season with their Christmas memory tree

Published: December 6, 2019

Members of The Maltings day service in Norfolk had a touching start to the festive period with a Christmas lights switch on for their memory tree.

Friends and family of FitzRoy were able to buy a bauble for The Maltings Christmas tree with the name of a loved one they want to remember inside.

Service manager Kerensa Palmer said: Our members decided this year that our Christmas tree would be a memory tree, they wanted a way to remember members who have passed away.

Friends and family and members of the public loved the idea, we sold 75 baubles in total and the tree looks so lovely. Everyone enjoyed decorating it and turning the lights on!

The Maltings raised a total of £325 from the sale of the memory baubles as well as their stall at the Fakenham Christmas lights switch on.

Kerensa said: We were a part of the Fakenham Christmas lights switch on many years ago. This year we were really surprised to get a phone call from Fakenham Town Council asking us if we wanted a stall, and of course we said yes!

I had a lot of people volunteering to help out on the stall, and we had lots to sell from crafts made by The Maltings social enterprise groups. Our members are so keen to raise money for our service and the creations they made were just amazing, they were all their own ideas and made on their own, it was incredible. We sold a lot in such a short amount of time.

Everyone who volunteered had such a lovely day being a part of the Fakenham event. I am so proud of all of the staff and the people we support at The Maltings. Our members have been so creative with their ideas for all our Christmas activities, it’s all down to them. Everyone’s enthusiasm has just been so incredible. The Maltings is definitely ready for Christmas!”
