New year, new home for Natalie - FitzRoy

New year, new home for Natalie

Published: December 21, 2018

Natalie received the most wonderful Christmas present that anyone could ask for – her first forever home.

Natalie is 29 and moved into our Chineham service on 10 December. This is the first time she has had her own front door and her first settled, permanent home where she isn’t sharing with other people. This brand new Hampshire Supported Living service offers the people we support a wonderful chance to live an independent and fulfilled life, that the rest of us may take for granted.

We are currently recruiting at this service. Read Natalie’s story below, or find out more about the job here.

Natalie said:

“This is the first time I have lived on my own, in my own place. I am really excited, I wasn’t nervous at all! Since moving in I have been really busy. I have been going to the shops with FitzRoy staff, buying food, getting out and about in the community. I have been shopping for things I need for my home. I bought a new hoover today! The staff here are so nice, they are really fun. We all went to Tesco to fundraise for FitzRoy and everyone was really kind and generous.”

Natalie has so much to look forward to as she takes these steps to becoming more independent. She recently went with Service Manager Julie Cartawick to pick out her new car. She is so excited to be taking delivery of a brand new ink blue Nissan. The sky really is the limit for Natalie as she plans for her new life in her new home.

The service consists of 18 self contained flats, and Natalie is getting new neighbours and friends moving in. Natalie had previously been living in temporary accommodation, but now she can plan, make long-term friends and build strong community links.

Deputy Service Manager Ana Bambergher said:

“Since opening we have had so many kind offers from the community, from volunteering to invitations to Christmas dinner! The community has been lovely, we really feel welcome and involved.”

And a final word from Service Manager Julie Cartawick: “I am extremely proud of both my staff and the people we support. Staff have been working so hard to make sure that all our new residents settle in to their homes and feel part of the community. The people we support, have achieved so much as they settle in to their new homes.”

We are recruiting at our new Chineham service. Do you want to work with a wonderful team, to support people like Natalie to live independent lives?
