Stephen our FitzRoy ‘Hero’ - FitzRoy

Stephen our FitzRoy ‘Hero’

Published: November 20, 2015

Superstar Stephen, from FitzRoy in Birmingham, is over the moon to have been recognised as an ˜Unsung Hero’. It was a complete surprise when the local Vicar phoned him up to say he’d been put forward for the award!

This award recognises the huge contribution Stephen makes to his local community in Hodge Hill. In particular his magnificent efforts with a gardening project, a sponsored swim to raise money for FitzRoy, and the community discos he DJ’s at where he gets everyone dancing to their favourite tunes. Stephen and Wayne, his Support Worker, got dressed up for the awards ceremony at Castle Bromwich Hall, and enjoyed a wonderful dinner and drinks reception.

It is fantastic that Stephen has been recognised for his generosity of spirit and the way he always transcends his disability. There are many dedicated people helping him reach his goals and focus on what he can do, and it is wonderful that Stephen has been able to achieve the ordinary things many take for granted. His achievements are testament to what truly person-centred support can achieve.
