Adam shares his latest newsletter

Published: February 11, 2022

To help Adam stay in touch with family and share all of his achievements, we have supported him to create and send a regular newsletter.

Adam lives at our Suffolk supported living service with four other young men.

Egnes, senior support worker said:

“Adam has lived here for ten years now, and I have seen a massive change in him. Like all the people we support, our priority was to get to know Adam and how we could understand and support him to achieve his wishes and needs.

“Assistive technology has made a huge difference as it has enabled us to increase the ways that Adam can communicate and be understood. We have seen him become much more independent.

“When I first started working at Lethrede, Adam often needed two people supporting him for various activities, but now he only needs one and some of his favourite activities he can do mostly independently.

We have been able to support Adam to learn skills that have enabled him to lead the life he wants.

“Adam will sit with either me or Joanne – another support worker – and look through his pictures and write together what he wants to showcase in his newsletter.

“He is so expressive – he will smile or do a cheeky grin to show his enthusiasm. As we have got to know Adam and understand him better, we continue to make sure we adapt how we support him so we can get the best for him. We are constantly developing the way we communicate with him and make use of technology to make sure he has every choice in what he does.

I am so proud of how far he has come.

“Adam loves people and being active. He is always finding any excuse to go out! The newsletter has been jammed packed with all of his favourite activities.

“All of Adam’s family and friends love the newsletters. They are always excited to hear about what Adam is up to. They love hearing from him.”
