FitzRoy Malvern residents rock!

Residents at FitzRoy Malvern don’t attend your usual music sessions. They rock out with electric instruments out at their local rock school! Louise Hutchings, Service Manager told us more.

“Rock School is run by Snoezelen in Worcester, a company who run a variety of activities for people with disabilities. Some of the people who live here have been going to Snoezelen for 20 years!

A few years ago, the two chaps who ran the music sessions, Steve and Glynn, decided to set up a band for people with disabilities to join. A group of talented volunteers from Worcester University come along and play a variety of instruments, including keyboards, guitars and drums. At Malvern we have two budding guitarists, Ben and John, who love to go and get up to play their guitars and sing along.

They play all types of music from the 60’s to modern day and there’s loads of crowd participation from family members and Support Workers. We are all encouraged play instruments, sing, and dance. John once told me I had embarrassed him with my singing though! From time to time they are invited to play at concerts around the county, a brilliant opportunity which they love getting involved with!”

Many of the people we support attend music sessions like Rock School. Click here to find out about the benefits of music therapy for people with learning disabilities.
