Our Stories

At FitzRoy we come across inspirational stories every day. These stories are at the heart of what we do, and show that our values are not just words on a page – they are real. We are incredibly proud of the achievements the people we support, our volunteers, fundraisers and staff accomplish every day.

Their stories are what motivate us and what drive us to keep developing and moving forward as a charity.

  • Stephen’s story

"I have been involved in the Forum since it started, and I enjoy the meetings and seeing other people who are supported by FitzRoy."

  • Nathan’s story

Nathan loves music, swimming, social nights at the pub and skittles - all thanks to the care and support of the staff at Malvern.

  • Debbie’s story

“I now live on my own and I like being independent. It’s not too far from my mum and dad, so I see them a lot and I know people at FitzRoy will always help me if I need it.”

  • Malcolm’s story

Malcolm would like to see even more people with learning disabilities being involved in making some of the more important decisions within the organisation. He is actively involved in making this happen.

  • Mark’s story

Mark has always been a hard worker and has benefited greatly from being part of the FitzRoy Rural Skills Project.

  • Shirley’s story

“Shirley talks to me and comes to help us. I like Shirley coming here and I’d be sad if she didn’t come anymore.”

  • Bill and Gavin’s story

We support Bill and Gavin to live in South London and they have been volunteering at the Green Gym, a national environmental charity, since May 2011.

  • Jess’s story

Jess volunteered for FitzRoy as part of our summer activities project

  • Paul’s story

When he started volunteering, Paul was rather quiet, especially in group situations, but spending one-to-one time with a member of staff and having a job in the community has made him much more confident.

  • Heather’s story

"To anyone who is thinking about volunteering with people with learning disabilities, I’d say just do it!"
