Nottinghamshire services get festive!

Christmas is suddenly upon us, and lots of the people we support in Newark and Mansfield got into the spirit. Community Fundraising Coordinator, Bev, told us about the very festive event.

We have been running a social inclusion project in Nottinghamshire for just over a year now and it has been a huge success. The project aims to get our service users together to build relationships, confidence and gain new skills. We have been having coffee mornings, knit and natter sessions, and much more. So we decided that as it’s almost Christmas we would get everyone together for a Christmas coffee morning.

Marie and Nicola Astle, staff team members and sisters, went all out and made some amazing treats to rival Mary Berry bakes! They made miniature Christmas puddings and trees amongst other delights which had everyone tucking in! We also had lots of naughty but nice treats from Laurens Patisserie, so a big thank you to them.

We were pleased to welcome our local Waitrose Community Champions, Margaret and Angela, who have been a fantastic support to us this year.

We also invited a local school project. Nancy Millar and Louisa Lamont from Newark’s Barnby Road Academy came with staff to showcase their work with their very own enterprise, ˜Blue Bowtique’. Some of the ladies we support tried on and bought handmade bows from the enterprise for themselves or as gifts and everyone joined in with the festivities.

It was great to get people from the wider community involved, and everyone we support had a brilliant time. It was smiles all round. Thank you to all of the wonderful local businesses that donated goods for our raffle, FitzRoy staff, and the people we support who came along and helped organise the event. Merry Christmas!
