Apprentice turns Support Worker - FitzRoy

Apprentice turns Support Worker

Follow your dreams.

Josh grew up watching his uncle support someone with learning disabilities and dreamt of doing the same one day. A year ago, he took the plunge and joined FitzRoy as an apprentice in our Mayfield Service.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect when I arrived; I had a general idea life can be quite tough for people with learning disabilities and I wanted to try and help change things. The staff team here are fantastic and I was surprised at how quickly the people we support accepted me into their lives. The satisfaction I get out of seeing the lads evolve and grow and reach their goals is huge. At the end of each day, I’m tired but never in a bad mood or stressed, and I always look forward to the next day. To do this job you need to want to help people and be relaxed and calm. I hope this is the start of my career – my next step will be to qualify as an Occupational Therapist for people with learning disabilities.” Josh Wyatt, FitzRoy Support Worker

“When Josh joined us he didn’t really know what he wanted, he just knew it was something in Care. During his time here he found himself, and became very good at focussing on work. The team here supported him all the way and watched him grow in confidence. A year on we’re really pleased he accepted a job as a full time Support Worker with us. He’s relaxed and doesn’t get fazed especially when supporting people with high anxiety; he’s become a valuable member of our team.” Phil Ganny, FitzRoy Manager Cambridge
